Product Description

Infinite Loop is a one player game that challenges his / her reaction time while developing dexterity and reflexes. The Infinite Loop is composed of one blue and one yellow plastic track unified as one, and stacked on top of one another. The lower track has smooth ergonomic grips for each hand to hold and for a player to open and close the top track in which a pale orange plastic ball rolls end to end; the trick is close the track before the ball gets to the open end and then repeat! Two balls are provided for different resistance levels (dimpled and smooth).

Cognitive 3

Skills

  • Infinite Loop develops and strengthens visual-spatial processing skills as the player learns how to judge where the ball is on the Loop’s track relative is to the track’s end.
  • Infinite Loop develops and strengthens the processes underlying hand-eye coordination as the player learns to open and close the Loop as the ball approaches the end of a track.
  • Infinite Loop develops focus and attention as the player must stay finely tuned to the ball’s position on the track to anticipate operation of the Loop’s track.

Play Ideas

  • Facilitator instructs player to find small round objects to substitute for the balls that are provided for use on the Infinite Loop. As the player uses the “alternative balls”, he / she can evaluate how the size, weight, and texture of them change the rate or ease of play.
  • Strengthen auditory processing skills by instructing the player to close his / her eyes while listening to facilitator to cue when to open and close the loop.

Adaptation Ideas

  • Encourage players to operate the Infinite Loop on a desk or other flat surface before operating it while standing or sitting, in order to give players the opportunity to understand the concept of closing the track and practice the eye-hand coordination needed to keep the ball on the track without falling.

Physical 3

Skills

  • Infinite Loop develops and strengthens cooperative hand movements by the player utilizing both hands to simultaneously pull or push the Loop’s grips to operate the toy.
  • Infinite Loop strengthens gross and fine motor skills as the player holds the Loop’s grips between the heel of his/ her hand and fingers to operate the toy.
  • Infinite Loop provides proprioceptive input as player pushes and pulls the Loop’s grips to quickly and firmly connect the ends of the Loop’s track together, thereby stimulating the joint receptors.

Play Ideas

  • To measure improvement in motor skill development, facilitator counts and records the number of times the player can direct the ball in a full loop over the duration of one minute.
  • Strengthen balancing skills and core support by using the Infinite Loop while balancing on one foot.

Adaptation Ideas

  • To acclimate the player the sensation of the ball rolling through the loop, instruct the player to practice guiding the ball on one loop with one hand rather than pulling apart the tracks.

Social/Emotional 4

Skills

  • Infinite Loops develops patience and opportunity to improve frustration tolerance as player masters the timing of opening and closing the Loop’s track to prevent the ball from falling from the track.
  • Infinite Loop provides proprioceptive input as player pushes and pulls the Loop’s grips to quickly and firmly connect the ends of the Loop’s track together, aiding in self-regulation of socially emotional situations such as when playing the game in the presence of others.
  • Infinite Loop can be played independently, allowing players to enjoy solo play when they need a break from peers, siblings, or facilitators.

Play Ideas

  • To build teamwork skills, invite player and partner to grasp onto opposing handles of the Infinite Loop. Instruct the players to communicate clearly to work in sync to prevent the ball from falling off the track!
  • To develop social interaction skills, instruct player to sit in a circle with peers and pass the Infinite Loop clockwise once each player has completed one loop. Be careful not to drop the ball when passing!
  • To assist with the development of coping skills, instruct players to perform one – ten jumping jacks (or other preferred physical exercise) each time players drop the ball from the Loop track.

Adaptation Ideas

  • To acclimate the player to the game: a) instruct the player to roll the ball as slowly as possible through the track without the opening and closing of the Loop to grow accustomed to how the ball momentum picks up or slows down as the player manipulates the Loop; b) instruct the player to open and close the Loop without the ball on the track to grow accustomed to the degree of physical force required to operate it; c) take the time to discuss the player’s observations of the two previous exercises to help player process how the two are related and how they might work together.
