Product Description

Architecturally designed wooden play set with faux river stone pillars and pagoda-style roof. The play set features a rope bridge, rock wall, two-sling seat swings, a trapeze bar and space to attach a slide (Slide sold separately). The upper level includes a magnetic chalkboard while the lower level has three permanently attached percussion instruments: bongos, rain wheel and babaloo. The play set can accommodate up to 10 children. Individual swings have a maximum weight of 115lbs. All needed lumbar is included and is pre-cut and stained. The rope bridge can accommodate two children and has a maximum weight limit of 150lbs. Note: The play set that was evaluated included the Cool Wave slide and this report reflects that addition.

Sensory 4

Skills

  • Eye-hand and eye-foot coordination are used when climbing the rock wall.
  • Core strength, balance and balance reaction are worked on when children sit and slide down the slide, swing on the swings or cross the rope bridge.
  • Sound differentiation can be a part of play as children play the bongos and the babaloo.

Play Ideas

  • Use highly tactile or audible items to slide down the slide such as a ball with an internal chime.
  • Play by the percussion instruments. Have a child close his eyes. Then play an instrument and have the child guess which instrument was played.
  • Have a child close his eyes. Then play a rhythm using all three percussion instruments. Have the child open his eyes and repeat the rhythm.

Adaptation Ideas

  • Demonstrate how to swing and pump your legs.
  • Use verbal cues such as, “In,” and “Out” or “Forward,” and “Backward” to help children remember how to move their legs to pump and swing.

Physical 3

Skills

  • Foot placement, weight shifting and whole body strength are used while crossing the rope bridge or climbing the rock wall.
  • Motor planning and coordination skills are used to climb and play on this set.
  • Core strength, balance and balance reaction are worked on when children sit and slide down the slide, swing on the swings or cross the rope bridge.

Play Ideas

  • Have two children at opposite ends of the slide roll a ball back and forth to one another. If one of the children is in a wheelchair, find the most comfortable position next to the slide to catch the ball.

Adaptation Ideas

  • Change the sling seat swing to another design (Alternative swings sold separately).
  • Demonstrate how to swing and pump your legs.
  • Use verbal cues such as, “In,” and “Out” or “Forward,” and “Backward” to help children remember how to move their legs to pump and swing.

Social/Emotional 4

Skills

  • Children learn to negotiate and compromise while playing with others in a shared play space.
  • Awareness of others can be practiced as children make sure everyone is clear of the slide before sliding down or make sure to give the swings plenty of room when walking in front of them while in use.
  • Parallel play, cooperative play and social interaction can all be facilitated while building confidence. 

Play Ideas

  • Use chalk to decorate the outside or inside of the clubhouse independently or with others.
  • Create pretend play scenarios for kids to use the clubhouse as a restaurant, shopping mall or school. 

Adaptation Ideas

  • Tape picture cues of stop signs at the bottom of the slide or other locations on the play set to enforce direction.
