• Color identification is an essential skill to this matching game as kids must find the tiles that match either the color written, the color the word is written in, or the color of the chameleon.
• The matching component of Color Clash is an engaging means to heighten memory and recall in children playing as they try and remember where they saw a matching tile.

Play Ideas

• Use the tiles like flashcards to get kids familiar with finding a match. Start with naming the color of the chameleon and then move onto the words.
• Kids can go to the library or search online with caregiver guidance to learn more about the “Stroop Effect,” used as the basis of Color Clash.
• Kids can create a 9th game to the instruction booklet. Maybe it’s a combination of games Color Clash describes or maybe it is a brand new idea.

• Receptive language skills can be targeted as kids hear the directions read aloud by a caregiver or peer and then implement the instructions during gameplay.
• Color Clash promotes peer interaction as kids discuss which rules will be used and communicate during game play. 

Play Ideas

• Stack up the tiles and see how many actual colors versus word colors can be read aloud in a row.
• Caregivers can download “Stroop Effect” flash cards online to practice saying them out loud to loosen up before game play.

• Gameplay is open ended, allowing children to exercise imagination for continued play with the 8 game ideas or creating their own.

Play Ideas

• Visit the local reptile house to see real life chameleons change colors before your eyes!
• Have kids create their own “Stroop Effect” tiles or cards. This provides a tangible experience for understanding the theory. For example, writing out the color purple using a red crayon.
