Tech-Too Smart Phone

Promoted Skills
Product Description
The Tech-Too product line provides kids with their own personal smart phone and tablets to imitate caregivers. The focus is to educate and engage kids in learning letters, numbers, colors, shapes, and more! Tech-Too products have a realistic approach to toys, are lightweight and provide light-to-the-touch screen interactions. Each product is bilingual in English and Spanish and provides kids with pretend play and learning opportunities.
Cognitive
Skills
- Children can learn recognition and identification of numbers, shapes, colors, animals and more using the tablets and smart phone.
- Cause and effect learning can take place as children interact with the tablets and smart phone games.
- Problem solving skills are utilized as children use the tablets and smart phone in game play mode.
- The Tech Too line provides opportunity for repetition which helps children learn, remember and recall information like letters and their sounds.
Play Ideas
- During exploratory mode, a caregiver can ask children to “spell” the letters of their name or different words using the letters on the Alphabet Tablet.
- A caregiver can ask a child to press different buttons during exploratory mode to expand the game play questions.
- A caregiver and the child can create a memory game from the icons on the Alphabet Fun and Fun N Play tablets. For example, draw the icons on index cards with the word on the back.
- A caregiver can press a button on the smart phone or tablet and then have the child find the button that was pressed. This activity works on auditory processing skills.
Adaptation Ideas
- Cover part of the tablet with black paper to focus play on just one part of the tablet like letters, shapes or colors.
- A caregiver can set up a timer or stop watch so the child knows when the time is up and game play is finished.
Sensory
Skills
- Visual stimulation is promoted with the light component on the game modes of the tablets (smart phone does not have light components).
- Children can learn and explore with multiple senses during play with the Tech Too products- hearing, seeing, and touching.
- Sound localization is incorporated into play when a caregiver presses buttons on the tablets and smart phone from another location and the child looks for the source of the sound.
Play Ideas
- A caregiver can be the voice of the game and the child can use the tablets and smart phone to point to find the right answer without turning on the toy. This can assist children who may become overstimulated during electronic game play.
- A caregiver and child can try to act out the different animals on the tablets adding a kinesthetic element to play.
- Have the child close his eyes and a caregiver press a button. Then have the child open his eyes and try to find the button that was pressed.
Adaptation Ideas
- Cover the speaker with tape in order to reduce the sound level if needed. Constant adult supervision is required for this adaptation.
- Trace a line of school glue or puffy paint around the edges of the icons to help define the buttons. Constant adult supervision is required for this adaptation.
Physical
Skills
- Tech Too products offer opportunities for developing visual processing and scanning skills during game play.
- Children can practice pointing, finger isolation and wrist movements when selecting buttons to push.
- Eye-hand coordination is used as children press the buttons to play the games.
- Hand transferring can take place when a child passes the smart phone from one hand and ear to the other.
Play Ideas
- A caregiver can promote isolated finger movements by asking the child to use specific fingers like the index finger to select the icons.
- A caregiver can have the child lay prone with the tablets or smart phone within arm’s reach to encourage arm extension during play.
- A caregiver can specifically lay the tablets or smart phone on the child’s weaker side to encourage and strengthen movement on that side of the body.
Adaptation Ideas
- Place a sheet of non-skid shelf liner under the tablets to help stabilize them.
- Use your own stylus pen to select the buttons on the sensitive touch pad to ease selection.
- Trace a line of school glue or puffy paint around the edges of the icons to help define the buttons. Constant adult supervision is required for this adaptation.
